Ian Carter
LMFT
Ian is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with ten years of experience and is licensed to practice in Hawaii and California. He is a graduate from Chapman University in Northern California. Ian has worked closely with the homeless population as well as the LGBTQIA+ communities in Oakland and San Francisco. He has also been working in substance abuse counseling in the state of Hawaii.
Ian's specific areas of expertise are LGBTQIA+ related issues, Depression and Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, Grief and Loss, and Substance Use Disorders (with a harm reduction approach). The theoretical approaches he often pulls from include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Humanistic, Solution-Focused, and Narrative Therapy.
In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife, trying different foods and immersing himself in various cultures, creating art, and binging on old Anthony Bourdain shows or the hottest new series on Netflix.
